Pajama Party

I'M A HARDCORE FREESTYLE FAN, AND I'M NOT TALKING FREESTYLE LIKE BUSTA RHYMES ON A STREET CORNER ...

I'm a hardcore freestyle fan, and I'm not talking freestyle like Busta Rhymes on a street corner... freestyle like girl groups with big hair, Latin rhythms and cheesy love songs. And the best freestyle group? Hands down Pajama Party.

Like Debbie Deb and L'Trimm, who have been the source of inspiration and jokes for hipster DJs everywhere, I've been waiting for years for Pajama Party to have their turn at an ironic/un-ironic come back. Pajama Party take it back to a time -- a time long ago in the late-80s/early-90s -- when dance music was friendlier and softer; focusing on two things: moving your feet and love.

"Yo No Se" was the groups biggest hit and is a perfect introduction. It's probably too easy for dance floors right now, but if you added a distorted bass line it would fit right in -- especially with the way the vocals are treated.

Pajama Party - Yo No Se

Pajama Party is actually still around, but the line up has changed over the years. They're like Menudo or something... new girls, old songs. Though Pajama Party never spawned a Ricky Martin, they did help jump start the career of Daphne Rubin-Vega who had a mid-90s solo dance hit and originated the role of Mimi in the musical Rent.
