Free Web Screening of Daft Punk's "Electroma"

Daft Punk's 2006 feature-length film, Electroma, doesn't need much of an introduction. The movie was hailed at the Cannes Film Festival, adored at the Biennale de Montréal, and just about every other festival and screening it passed through in its year-long tour. And Thomas Bangalter famously made his cinematographic debut without even receiving any technical training in the art of cinema (allegedly, he purchased and devoured 200 back issues of American Cinematographer before commencing the eleven-day filming in the Californian desert).

Finally, Electroma is coming to the States. July 22 marks its official DVD release, so we recommend you buy it if you're looking to film that gaping hole in your Daft Punk collection. Amazon.com has it up for pre-order for the reasonable price of $17.

Now, if the silent S.F. odyssey somehow passed you by and you'd like a free screening of it before picking up the real deal, head on over to Lycos Cinema for free screenings starting at midnight tonight.

We're new to Lycos Cinema, but the core idea seems sort of compelling. Create an account, invite your friends to the Internet theater, reserve your digital "seats," and plop down in front of your computer a few minutes before showtime, popcorn and soda in hand. Maybe we'll test it out tonight...

Electroma at Lycos Cinema

Buy Electroma at Amazon.com
