SeaVees for Gap X Colette

One of our coolest—and most exciting—California shoe companies, SeaVees, just announced a special limited-edition sneaker for the Gap X Colette collaborative concept store in N.Y.C. SeaVees specializes in creating shoes that celebrate 1960s footwear—and celebrate they do: each model is associated with a specific day and story in history. The Gap X Colette shoe is based off of the 05/66 slip-on, renamed the 09/08 (the release date).

We asked SeaVees co-founder Steven Tiller about the project. Read on for the full scoop and remember to pick up a pair or two at SeaVees' homepage, Fred Segal in L.A., or Jeffery in N.Y.C.

How did the collaboration with Gap and Colette come about?

In contacting us, we discovered they were fans of the brand and interested in doing something special with us. As a brand that celebrates California culture from the 1960s, the GAP—founded in San Francisco in 1969—was a natural association for us. With Colette curating the project, we found the collaboration to be exciting and consistent with our brand aspirations.

How is this version different than the one you made specifically for SeaVees—and what was the inspiration for the alteration?

They loved the classic appeal of our 05/66 Slip-On, a style that, until now, could only be purchased at Jeffrey New York or Fred Segal Los Angeles. We worked together to create a palette of six colors that would be appropriate and exclusive to the project.

SeaVees homepage
