Few labels get the mind-boggling acclaim that Creation Records did, and fewer still derive that credibility from the innate talent of their roster rather than the grandness of their aesthetic and vision (we're looking at you, Factory!)
We guarantee that every kid on the other English-speaking side of the pond owns at least one Creation Records album. (Okay, maybe that's a stretch, but can we settle for every one in four?) The London-based label, founded way back in 1983, began its 16-year life by signing a few unknowns (the Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream), continued to rise through the 1980s with acts like the epic My Bloody Valentine, and then exploded with the world-changing group we all know so well: Oasis.
Anyway, McGee's rags-to-riches tale is soon to be released as a documentary by Document, and boy does it look a doozy that'll take you straight to the edge of your seat. You can check out a very compelling nine-minute trailer at the founder's MySpace page. Get those lighters out: you're going to be waving them high in the sky while sitting down to enjoy this one, we're certain.
