As many of you out there know, Hercules and Love Affair's head honcho, Andrew Butler, is also quite the DJ. (Need proof? Check out the video we made from last year's live performance and DJ set.) The Colorado native raved right through his teenage years and eventually found himself in NYC, spinning with the best of 'em, so it comes as no surprise that the DFA disco afficianado commence Renaissance Records' latest mix series, Sidetracked.
"Sidetracked has been developed to show the other side of bands from the electronic genre who can, and do, DJ," says Renaissance Geoff Oakes. "It's an opportunity to offer a diverse, unique series, which makes Hercules & Love Affair the more than perfect choice to kick-start matters."
While such compilations are already plentiful (Fabriclive being one of our favorites), Sidetracked seems to bring something new to the table. The DJ essentially becomes the two-disc release's curator rather than performer or centerpiece, making for what we assume to be an incredible soundtrack for any sort of lively party. Whatever the case, though, god damn does this tracklist look fly. Daniel Wang!? Gino Soccio!? Hercules and Love Affair themselves!? Irresistible. Pick it up in late July.
