None of us are insusceptible to the lo-fi, hazy Balearic-leaning productions of Washed Out, one of 2009's D.I.Y. posterboys. Likewise, no one can resist the fuzzy yet gritty dream pop of Small Black, another one Brooklyn's current "it" bands. Lovepump United Records (HEALTH, Pictureplane, Clipd Beaks) is just as aware of these truths as we are, and, unlike us passive music enthusiasts, actually did something about it: they put out a split 7"!
Now, this isn't like most splits you've seen. The a is a Small Black remix of Washed Out's "You'll See It," while the b is―you guessed it―a Washed Out remix of Small Black's "Despicable Dogs." Since we've played both tunes in their original format to death already, this isn't quite as gratifying as getting our grubby hands on new material, but both sides are spectacular and definitely worth the five bucks.
If you're not convinced yet, listen to the Washed Out remix of "Despicable Dogs" at Small Black's MySpace page. Ohand Washed Out and Small Black are touring together. Get the full schedule on the second page of this post.
