Nieves Books―long the supporter and promoter of underdog photographers, writers, and artists―is releasing two new publications this week. First, there's a new Ari Macopoulos 'zine of photographs, Always and Never, which looks good, albeit expected (dingy photos capturing "real life"). Second―and more importantly!―Nieves is dropping Wesley Willis' 2001, an impressively awesome and meticulous sketchbook of sorts by the recently deceased schizophrenic musician, poet, and all around weird guy.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Willis' work, check out his Alternative Tentacle homepage or Wikipedia entry. We've uploaded one of our favorite tunes by the enigmatic and prolific artist for sampling in the media player to the right.
Sort of an unorthodox addition to the Nieves roster, right?
