Soyfriends may not have the back catalog of Nieves Books quite yet, but what the small publisher lacks in volume is duly made up for in quality. Every 'zine Soyfriends has released is a well-made, thoughtful, and compelling piece of art that one can't help but treasure as a sort of secret treasure or undiscovered object.
The Norwegian company just released two new works: Tim Pigott's Chicago Obituary Pictures and Kristoffer Kjølberg's There Is An Upstairs? The Pigott publication is a creepy collection of comicbook-ish profile drawings while the Kjølberg is literally a 24-page comic! In usual Soyfriends fashion, both works are sophisticated and extra gritty all at once... somehow the über-indie company is able to meld the nasty and grotesque with the tasteful and professionally-designed.
Pick up both Chicago Obituary Pictures and There Is An Upstairs? while you can... each was pressed in a limited run of 40 or 50, so they may already be sold out by the time you add them to your PayPal cart!
