David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal, "Toe Jam"

Text: Nik Mercer

Norman Cook, a.k.a. Fatboy Slim, will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and while he's not too readily "right here, right now" anymore, he's still making music, albeit of a different variety.

The Brighton Port Authority is the name of Cook's latest musical endeavor, and while he doesn't seem to be pumping out tunes for beach raves under the new moniker, he's working with the likes of David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal on something a little more edgy. "Toe Jam" is the B.P.A.'s first "single," and it's really something else... firstly, the song itself is a funny tune about, well, toe jam (and other things) sung by David Byrne with some assistance from Dizzee Rascal. It's not every day that you hear Bryne say "fuck," especially backed by a summery lounge instrumental track. Secondly, the music video (above) is absolutely awesome. It features a parade of nude men and women, creatively taking advantage of their censor bars. We must admit that, even with the black strips over the actors' privates, we're still sort of turned on... censory overload! David Byrne! Dizzee Rascal! Norman Cook! Naked people! Sexy naked people!

Something by the B.P.A. is apparently coming out on Southern Fried Records, so keep an eye out on that homepage for more information.
