Full disclosure: when Jemina Pearl, Be Your Own Pet's bratty and awkwardly-maturing vocalist, announced that she had bigger and better things to do than stick around with her Nashville-bred punk band (signed to Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace, of course!), we got pretty friggin' scared. What would the incredibly attractive Southern minx with the attitude of a Lord of the Rings goblin do in the "real world" when she finally embarked out on her own? Was she departing the band to wrongly pursue some heat-of-the-moment offer (or new boyfriend)? It didn't help matter when it was announced that she would be sonically contributing to Gossip Girl, either. Obviously, like good parents, we were concerned for her wellbeing.
Yesterday, we got some very fortunate news by way of Ms. Pearl's MySpace page, though. The now most-definitely-legal lyric shredder has some really stunning new work up for our listening pleasure, and while we don't know what any of it's going to be used for (or if it'll be used at all), we're very impressed and pee-in-our-pants excited.
The three new tunes are smoother than the garage rock stuff the gal's known for, yet sharper in a Strokes sort of way, too. Whatever the future holds for J.P., we know it'll be a bright one, probably sprinkled with plenty of big-time success.
Jeez she is cute.
