MGMT Talks "Live from Abbey Road"

We gave you the lowdown on season two of the Sundance Channel's Live from Abbey Road series two weeks ago, so check out that article for the full story on the stellar program.

We're so enamored with the show that we decided to chat with two artists who participated—the Kills and MGMT—about their experience at the legendary recording studio. Needless to say, the topic shifted a little...

MGMT will be on tonight, so we're posting their interview first; the Kills will be on next Thursday, so we'll have that one up then.

On recording at the Abbey Road Studio

It was really fun—that place has a lot of meaning for us. We've done a lot of radio recordings where we go into the studio and [we're] expected to just come in and do what [we] do and then see something good come out. This was way different.

On coping with commercial success

We would never play something just to make someone happy. We have to do [occasionally] do some promo things or play some weird venue, but... that's the extent of it.

On the Justice remix of "Electric Feel"

We don't really listen to a lot of electronic music, but I think [Justice's] music is a lot of fun. We didn't think we wanted people to remix [our stuff], but... they did it really well!

On finding success and changing perceptions

I dunno... [the press] is all good. It's sort of mysterious, how people find out about us. We maybe paid too much attention to how we were perceived...
