Melville House -- perhaps best known in recent times as the imprint behind Tao Lin's Shoplifting from American Apparel -- recently announced a series of lectures, "Publishing in the Age of Blah Blah Blah." The talks will be held at Melville House's store in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Each week's installment covers literary culture and business from a different angle; all include serious A-list talent; all are only $5.
On January 27th, Melville presents "What do Authors think of e-books?" The discussion will include the aforementioned Tao Lin, along with Believer editress Heidi Julavits, Sam Meno, John Wray, and others.
February 3rd's discussion, "What does the future hold for translated books?," is a bit more niche, but should be of interest to anyone who marveled at the critical and popular success of 2666.
"The future of book reportage" on February 10th brings together Time Out New York's Michael Miller with editors from O Magazine and Mediabistro.
And if you're crazy, deranged, and/or ambitious enough to think of launching your own print-based company, don't miss "The publishing company of the future," with contributors from Soft Skull Press, Verso, and others.
Books are dead. Long live books!
