Ah, the Internet. A lovely place where total strangers can call each other assclowns over unreleased Sufjan Stevens' tracks. The song in question, "The Lonely Man of Winter," was "won" by one Alec Duffy, a 30-something Brooklynite who is now the sole owner of the rights. Instead of sharing his present with the blogosphere, he's held regular listening parties in his apartment; Stevens' aficionados can stop by, sip some tea, and listen to "The Lonely Man of Winter" on headphones. The Wall Street Journal stopped by his apartment to report on the proceedings. It's all a bit twee and precious, and normally that would have us vomiting on our shoes...but maybe we're getting old and sentimental.
Mr. Duffy, we'd like to say, firmly and without hesitation: Keep up the good work. Don't let the blogosphere's bile keep you down.
That said, if you'd like to offer Anthem exclusive MP3 download rights to "The Lonely Man of Winter," we wouldn't turn down the web traffic. Email us, you twee genius! In return we'll knit you a sweater and hug you for a very long time.
